I can’t decide if I’ve been in a gym slump or just too lazy to go to the gym. Either way, I haven’t been making it to the gym. I’ve been really good about getting out on the streets and doing my cardio though! (so that’s something, right…?)
As we all know, this time of year gets crazy, and routines fall by the wayside. So I’ve decided- what better way to get out of a fixed routine, than to try something new??
Confession: I’m a fitness chicken.
I’m scared of trying something new: machines, routines, lifting, classes- because I don’t like to not be good at something. (It’s dumb. I know. Welcome to my world.)
I recently found a perfect option that inspired me to try something new- YOGA! It seems crazy, doesn’t it? I’ve never done yoga. I’ve wanted to for a long time, but I was scared. I don’t want to go to a class, because I don’t want to be the newbie without a clue. I don’t have a great deal of floor space at home, so that was a convenient excuse…I could probably go on, but I won’t. You’re welcome!
So back to that perfect option I found. Mind, Body, Green posted a great yoga workout for “long, sexy legs.” (FINGERS CROSSED!) I’m painfully aware that my legs will never be long (I’m sitting at just under 5’4″), but a girl can dream of having the best legs they’re capable of 🙂
A lot of the poses remind me of stretches I did for years as a dancer, so I feel like it’s the perfect sequence to tackle as a start:
I’m pretty excited to finally be trying yoga! I’ve been wanting (needing) to work on my flexibility for awhile, so I think this is going to be great! And a special THANK YOU to Mind, Body, Green for this workout! For additional information on each pose, you can go here or click on a picture.
I did this sequence for the first time last night, and I can flat out say- I love it! It’s a great starter for me into the world of yoga.
- I’m struggling a little with a couple of the moves, but interestingly, one of them I even had a problem with at my most flexible. The other is not one of the ones I would have expected to struggle with.
- I need to work on my breathing
- I’m actually not very far off from getting back to the splits, which is a little shocking to me!
- My balance needs work. Like, bad…
- I’m just a little bit sore today, as any good stretching should do!
QOTD: Are you using the holidays as an excuse to try a new fitness routine? What are you trying?
