There are so many things about our younger years that we don’t appreciate as we get older. For me, one of those things is dressing up.
School dances…banquets…senior events…We had so many reasons to shop for a special outfit and dress up back in the day! And frankly, we just don’t appreciate it at the time. I only went to three dances in high school- all of them my senior year.
Never would I have believed that 20 years later, I’d spend most of my time in yoga capris and t-shirts (you know, as opposed to the leotards and tights that I spent most of high school wearing…ha!)
Now that I’m coming up on my…*ahem*…20 year high school reunion (ouch), it’s fun to look back at all the fun things I got to wear! Because as an adult, there just aren’t many occasions to get to dress up. Most of us don’t go to
many any black tie or otherwise dress up events. It’s kind of a shame, really…
For prom my senior year, I got to wear the cocktail dress from Pretty Woman. It was awesome. I thought I was the coolest person ever (thank you Amy for the loaner). Of course, I didn’t feel like I could eat anything that night…that dress was FITTED. Then again, back then I was 110 pound solid muscle powerhouse. Youth really is wasted on the young… *sigh*
There comes a point in life when wedding invitations die down, special dates don’t take place, and work events no longer require anything beyond “work attire.” I think part of the reason we’re so fascinated by award shows is because we envy celebrities getting to dress up.
We need to find more reasons to get fancy sometimes! I love the comfort factor of my daily wardrobe, I really, really do, but sometimes you just need to feel pretty, right??
QOTD: Do you get to dress up in your life? Do you miss it?
